SLOWFOOD and FEDERPESCA in TORRE CERRANO

Yesterday 30 Sept 2010, a meeting organized by the MPA Management Association was held in the offices of the Marine Protected Area in Torre Cerrano.

The regional coordinator of the Italian Fishing Federation “Federpesca”, Walter SQUEO,  met the national and regional managers of Slow Food, Cinzia SCAFFIDI, Silvio GRECO and Raffaele CAVALLO. Other political figures participated in the meeting, such as the local councils representatives and the members of the MPA Management Association.

Walter Squeo of Federpesca declared: “The Marine Park and the fishing world have a lot in common and that’s why they could work together profitably. For instance, it is urgent to find a solution to the pollution of our rivers that is damaging the marine ecosystem and reducing both quantity and quality of  fish. During the today’s meeting we have laid the basis for a useful cooperation”.

Another topic discussed at the meeting was the need for a sustainable fishing destined to local markets and provided with a seal of quality, the latter will be prepared and offered by the Marine Protected Area, as President Benigno D’Orazio stated.

Slow Food will make its contribution to reach such common goals and to guarantee the good quality of a product not yet as appreciated as it should be in the local market.
