“AdriaPAN in Europe”, the meeting of Adriatic protected areas in San Benedetto del Tronto, hosted by Sentina Nature Reserve

Protected areas as a driving force for the development of the Adriatic area. This is the important theme of "AdriaPAN in Europe": a meeting for all directors, actors, technicians and scientists, involved with Parks, Reserves and Marine Protected Areas of our sea. The network, existing since 2008, is called AdriaPAN (Adriatic Protected Areas Network) and involves more than 30 protected areas of all the countries along the Adriatic sea. On January 31 and February 1, 2013 we will meet in San Benedetto del Tronto (AP - Italy) in a workshop entitled "AdriaPAN in Europe-EU programs for the Adriatic Protected Areas: Life+ and more."

AdriaPAN in the EU Maritime Strategy for Adriatic and Ionian Sea

Presented in Zagreb (Croatia) the official final document from the UE Commission
AdriaPAN is the only network, mentioned as a good practice, on the “EU Maritime Strategy for Adriatic and Ionian Seas” adopted from European Commission and officially presented to the EU Parliament and Council on November 30th, 2012 (Com 2012- 713 final). In the Second Pillar of the Strategy, “Healthier Marine Environment” regarding the conservation of biodiversity and against pollution of the sea, it has been written: «Concrete options to be considered could be exchanging best practices among managing authorities of Marine Protected Areas aiming to preserve biodiversity, building on the work of the Adriatic Protected Areas Network (AdriaPAN)».

Abruzzo Region will support the nomination of Atri-Cerrano Park for UNESCO World Heritage

During the meeting “The Park of Tomorrow” held in Torre Cerrano last Friday, the President of the Regional Council of Abruzzo, Nazario Pagano, expressed great satisfaction with the nomination of Atri-Cerrano area for UNESCO World Heritage site and with its enrolment in the World Heritage List. He also stated that Abruzzo Region will support the project.

Press conference on “The Park of Tomorrow”

On Friday 17 September 2010, at 11.00 am, a press conference will be held in the blue hall of Abruzzo Region headquarters (viale Bovio, Pescara) to introduce the next event “The Park of Tomorrow”, planned for Thursday 23  and Friday 24 September 2010 in the ancient tower "Torre di  Cerrano" in Pineto . The event program includes conferences, workshops and suggestions for the Marine Protected Area “Torre del Cerrano”.

“Torre di Cerrano” is a beautiful tower located in the heart of the Marine Protected Area. It has been overlooking the Adriatic coastal landscape since the XVI century.
When coming back home from a journey, how often have we seen its profile and, at the same moment, had  the pleasant feeling of being finally at home? Or how often have we looked at it and fantasized about its story?
